In Newcastle we have been having a hectic time taking part in and documenting the Wunderbar Festival

Tonight we are very excited because this guy Alex MacKenzie is coming to do a show at our cinema called the Wooden Lightbox. He makes his own film stock, the emulsion that goes on the film and has the image exposed onto it, and he also has made his own hand cranked projector. I kind of made a really rubbish version of this once so it will be really great to see how his works.
He used to run a cinema called the Blinding Light!! Cinema which looks an absolute marvel.

I am looking forward to a few hours off when I can rummage around in the darkroom to find some equipment to bring up to Hospitalfields.
What kind of equipment do we want to play with? Perhaps we can edit a list on here.
Also when you say about sourcing projectors - do you mean video projectors? Or film too? Our video projector is tied to the cinema. But I guess there must be one that we can borrow in Dundee?
We will definitely be arriving on Sunday now. Looking forward to it!

onemanband
Back from water-town just as the rain started again. It was becoming a difficult place to negotiate without some (how do you say, the) 'big shoes'.
We went to see a series of one man bands-dressed as wolves on the last night on Giudecca. It was a great send off and felt all home-like, especially when the bar ran out of beer.
Getting back has been welcome- a full nights sleep without waking up to that bloody whimpering boiler. There's something decidedly less romantic about the view from my bedroom window, although a craned neck can help a keen eye make out the good ship discovery.
Off site screening plans are on-going, and so to on-site/hospitalfield screenings and events. Outdoors could be an option taking into account the freezing but mainly dry east-coast weather. Eyes to the BBC weather website, then to MET to double check.
What's the plan for projectors?

A post from Paris
Nice to see the Traghetto and familiar faces.
Debbie and I are in Paris until tomorrow. Paris is number 2 in the top European tourist destinations, Venice is number 9. We've also been to a couple of places that have the same history and art vibe - The Louvre and Versailles - and they inspire (in me at least) the same strange feelings about the changed purspose of contemporary art and what centuries old art means for the majority of people visiting things and places. We also saw a Pizza shop called Rialto and a pair of cinemas in the north of the city which are opposite each other on the Canal St. Martin. The cinemas are part of the same chain so if you are in one but you've bought a ticket for a screen across the water there is a free ferry service. That was really nice. All in all though it's quite a culture shock from Venice it's so loud and busy and intense. Whilst it's very well preserved and haunted by figures like Napoleon it's very charged with contemporary issues. Anyway, I'll have the film processed as soon as i get back and with any luck there'll be some images from me on the weekend.

home coming coming home
It's my last week here now, I'm heading back on Saturday. I am planning to put a few quick edits together in that first week back and post them up here.
There is an opportunity to make a screen print in the DCA print studio to go alongside the exhibition/work/film. It could be we make one each (as a set?), or that we make collaborative print together. This doesn't have to be completed for the show necessarily.
In the meantime...
